With proceeds from the sale of the Florida 'End Breast Cancer' specialty license plate FBCCRF funds grants to organizations in the state of Florida following recommendations by the Education Committee. This year's designated Education grant theme is: Education that Empowers Women to Play an Active Role in their Breast Health. The Foundation is particularly interested in proposals that target Individuals with Language and Cultural Barriers; Individuals who Live in Underserved Areas; and Interventions that Engage Health Care Professionals. Distinguished Members of Grant Review and Education Committee: Patricia Boswell, M.S., FBCCRF Co-Chair Grants subcommittee, Director of Health Center Services, Florida Cancer Plan Steering Committee member, Board member of the Mammography Voucher Program, Sister Study Recruitment and Retention Advisory Board (2004-2007). Pascale Denize Auguste, RN, project coordinator for the Haitian American Association Against Cancer, has over five years of experience in cancer education to underserved women in the Miami area and serves on the Southeast Regional Cancer Control Collaborative. Julie Byczek, RN, for over 30 years focused on pediatrics, womenÕs health, community health. I have experience in direct patient care, sales and marketing, outreach and education, managed care and administration. Currently employed with Department of Health Brevard County Health Department as a Senior Nursing Supervisor. Previous experience serving on the Board of the Central Florida Susan G. Komen for the Cure for the past 5 years as Education Chair, Grants Committee, and Vice President. Member of FBCCRF Education Committee since 2006. Lee Edelstein is the Vice Chair of FBCCRF as well as Finance Committee and Faith In Education Chair. He is currently the Chairman of TMS Health. Lee lost his first wife to breast cancer a few years ago. His new wife is a breast cancer survivor. Gina Kravitz Lisa Grossman Deb Haggerty is the Chair of FBCCRF and is an 8 year breast cancer survivor. She represents FBCCRF on the Florida Dialogue of Cancer (FDOC). As a graduate of Project LEAD, she has served as a consumer reviewer for the DoD Breast Cancer Research Project for several years. Deb is the creator of www.PositiveHope.com, a website designed to encourage women with breast cancer who want to control their own healthcare and family and friends who want to support them on their journeys. Mari Harvey, RN, is a breast health specialist with Baptist Healthcare in Pensacola and is on the breast cancer operating committee for the American Cancer Society of Florida. She has been chair of the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Initiative Task Force and is active in many cancer outreach and education projects. Cheryl Holder, MD is Medical Director of the North Dade Health Center in Opa-locka and a former recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation health leaders award. She is a leader in grassroots outreach and advocacy for the medically underserved on all issues of health care access. Dianne Nugent Jane Torres, founder of the Florida Breast Cancer Coalition and president of the Foundation, is a marriage and family therapist in private practice in Miami. She is a graduate of Project Lead, the National Breast Cancer Coalition's innovative training program for breast cancer activists and was selected by MAMM Magazine as one of the "50 Who Make a Difference". Nan Van Den Berg, PhD, LCSW, a professor of social work at Florida International University, is a recent graduate of Project Lead, the National Breast Cancer Coalition's innovative training program for breast cancer activists. |
