Long legs, licenses fight breast cancer
By Fiorella Sarmiento
The Nicole Shelley Runway Production Co. rolled out leggy models and luxury cars to fight breast cancer last week.
The ''Driving Home the Cure'' event featured a fashion show with six beautiful models wearing clothes from Crimson Carbon in South Beach. Outside, there were flashy cars like Bentleys and Rolls Royces from Prestige Luxury Auto Rental. The show was held Oct. 24 at Century Bank, 504 Washington Ave.
The cars all had license plates with a pink and blue background, a breast cancer logo and a figure of a woman crossing the finish line with the words ``I-CARE.''
The specialty license plates can be bought at any local tag agency, with $25 of the fee going to the Florida Breast Cancer Coalition Research Foundation.
With ''so many drivers in South Florida, everybody has to buy a license plate. Why not purchase a breast cancer tag to support this cause?'' said Nicole Shelley.
Another highlight of the evening was live jazz by singers Bob Grabau and Bobby Nathan. Wine and appetizers were courtesy of Baires Grill and Ishq Indian Restaurant.
The event raised about $5,000 to benefit the Foundation.
''A lot of people have a misconception that breast cancer only affects people from ages 50-70,'' Shelley said. |
