Robert Derhagopian, M.D., chair of the Committee, is an oncologic surgeon specializing in diseases of the breast. Jane Torres, is the founder of the Florida Breast Cancer Coalition (FBCC) and president of the Foundation. Jane is a graduate of Project LEAD®, the National Breast Cancer Coalition's innovative training program for breast cancer activists. Susan Moreno, a breast cancer advocate, serves on the FBCC board. Susan is a Project LEAD® graduate, has served on the Department of Defenses's (DOD) peer-review panels and has attended NBCC's Clinical Trials training. Leyda Benitez, Esq., is an attorney for Baptist Health South Florida, where she specializes in the areas of clinical research and institutional review board activities. Alan Hartstein, M.D., is a healthcare epidemiologist at Jackson Health System specializing in infectious diseases. He is also a professor of clinical medicine, at the University of Miami. Alan's wife, Barbara, is a breast cancer survivor, Secretary of FCCRF, and serves on the Marketing / PR Committee. Teresa Menendez, a breast cancer advocate, served on the FBCC board for six years as the legislative chair, and is a graduate of Project LEAD®. Louise Morrell, M.D. is a medical oncologist in West Palm Beach. Sharlene Weiss, Ph.D., is a psychologist specializing in psychoimmunology. She is the founder of The Courtelis Center and recently retired from her position as an associate professor at University of Miami's Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dan Osman, M.D., is a retired surgical oncologist and chair of the annual International Miami Breast Cancer Conference. Deb Haggerty, is a breast cancer survivor, graduate of Project LEAD®, Secretary to the Boards, Chair of the Marketing Committee, and creator of www.PositiveHope.com, a website designed to encourage women with breast cancer who want to control their own healthcare and family and friends who want to support them on their journey. Dr. Shala Masood is a Professor and Associate Chair for the University of Florida’s Department of Pathology. She is the Director of the Pathology Residency and Cytopathology Fellowship programs and is Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Shands Jacksonville. An internationally recognized expert in breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis, Dr. Masood has fostered the concept of a multidisciplinary approach in breast cancer care, research, and education. Dr. Masood is the founder and editor in chief of The Breast Journal, the founder and past president of the international society of Breast Pathology, the Director of the Annual Multidisciplinary Symposium on Breast Disease, and the Director of The Breast Cancer Public Forum. A pioneer of using cytomorphology as a breast cancer predictor, Dr. Masood authored the textbook, Cytopathology of the Breast. Dr. Masood is a patient advocate, a partner in community affairs, a fundraiser for We Care Jacksonville, and an accomplished artist and gourmet cook. Claudia Ochatt, Ph.D., M.B.A., is an education administrator at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Her research interests span signal transduction pathways and glycobology of tropical infectious diseases and cancerous cells. She is also the founder of Biomedlife, a nonprofit healthcare organization that partners medical researchers with physicians to resolve rare diseases. |
